I spoke to David a while ago and his first day went well. It was a "first day" he said. He said he thinks he'll like it once he gets comfortable with the equipment and gets a feel for what they're doing.
He'll be working 6-4:30 Mon-Fri and maybe sometimes on a Saturday. He worked with the tig welders today and he said he'd be fine if they keep him there. One of the guys was really impressed by him and wants David to show him how to weld using the foot pedal. The guy had even heard David uses the pedal a before David got there today and apparently tried to do it but wasn't successful. The other guy he worked with, we think may be feeling threatened by him. David did good by doing things the way they do, so they wouldn't think he was some guy coming in acting like a know it all. And of course the nice guy thought it was so cool that David built chassis. That's always the way to win them over and if you tell them he built the chassis for Orange County, then he's really cool! The nice guy, I think, realized David knows what he's doing and told David that if they welded like him it would save time sanding the welds. He also saw that David didn't weld as hot as they do so his metal didn't move after he welded it. The guy was impressed with that. I don't think the "less interested guy" said too much other than to tell David what to do.
Insurance kicks in in 90 days so that's good. Downside is: no dental. But working 10.5 hour days, he'll get overtime.
The only thing I'm worried about is him working those long hours and going to school Mon-Thurs afterwards. Then he wants to spend as much time as he can on Saturday's working on his brother's bike since he can't work on it during the week. He also wants to keep his job at Pizza Stop on the weekends. It's going to be hard for him to try to keep this up but I know he will for a while at least because we need the money.
I need to get a full time job to lessen the load on him. Pray that some doors will be opened for me please!!
